Shifting sands 🌊

Dear friends,

As you know, my work through Sacred Rhythms over the last 11 years has been primarily about birth. The initial impetus was my empowered home birth which led me first to becoming a doula which then opened the floodgates of information and practices surrounding women's bodies, women's power and women's spirituality.

It is endless. And yet. Birth inevitably leads to death.

And I'm a good starter, but not such a good finisher. Which sometimes means that I've overstayed my welcome. Or that the half-finished project never sees the light of day. I think most of us have a few of these precious pieces of our heart in a box in the closet.

In general our society is not so good with deaths. We mask the decay. We avoid the goodbyes. Only youth and overly made up, unrealistic beauty are allowed. If we ignore it, the problem will just go away, right? Perhaps I've been doing that too. Even I get caught up in the spiritual bypass, or fall victim to the "just one more course will fix everything."

As a "solopreneur" it can be easy to take business problems and failings as personal problems and failings. A trap of capitalism. The idea of solopreneur in itself is an impossible task. The universe, life, people around me, have all been pointing me in this direction. But it was hard to hear, so I tried to push through it. I just wanted to try one more thing! One more time!

Well, I finally hit that breaking point. I finally got the message! It is time to cut my losses and put Sacred Rhythms to bed for a time.

I have grown incredibly through this experience. And surprisingly (or not), I received even more insights and wisdom through the experience of saying goodbye.

But really, the only thing I'm saying goodbye to is the hustle of online marketing, networking and most deeply, the need to find my worth through my personal effort at making a living selling my spiritual work.

What I know hasn't changed. I still have within me the practices, skills, wisdom and knowledge of women's bodies, cycles and initiations. And I will carry that forward with me where ever I go, whatever I do.

So to be clear: my website will stay up. I will take doula clients (and I am finishing my certification this month)! I will continue to teach prenatal yoga through the end of November, and I will reevaluate then. My childbirth class is still available online. I will facilitate MotherCircle, ceremony, 1:1 sessions etc, by request. But I'm not marketing any of it. I am going to cut way back on sending emails (and I am going to move to a free email marketing platform).

To all who are reading, and have been reading these emails, supporting my social media and especially anyone who has joined a class, I am so immensely grateful for your support!

The world is on shifting sands at the moment. I am no different there. But I still believe that "I was made for this time" and that regardless of what it looks like on the outside, I am part of the evolution. I have faith that these moves will open doors to possibilities I would never have dared to dream.

After a bit of quiet time, there will be something new. And I can't wait to share it with you.

Peace, blessings and stay grounded!
Dawn

Sacred Rhythms

I'm a perinatal yoga teacher, doula and childbirth educator. If you make space for me in your inbox, I'll whisper my heart-felt musings on the making of Mother Culture through mothering.

Feminine Mysteries Oracle Dear friends, I was listening to some reporting on the radio about Linsday Clancey and how this is bringing forward the conversation about maternal mental health. My friend Rachel used the word revenant which is generally defined as someone who returns (to life). That she "returned" to expose an invisible but systemic flaw so that we might root out the problem. In the radio piece the expert said that this highlights the fact that there is nothing specific in the DSM...

Feminine Mysteries Oracle Dear friends, [from Dawn] I’ve started writing emails to you a few times in the last couple of weeks and every time I get stuck because there’s something that needs to be said at the outset, but it feels like a hard thing to say because I could easily be misunderstood. I ask you to hear this with an open mind because I am saying it with an open heart. I’ve listened to a lot of people that I respect on this topic and I’ve tuned in to my inner sense of truth. I’m...

Feminine Mysteries Oracle Dear friends, Today, we will introduce you to Veronica: I’m Veronica, though some know me as Nomadic Oracle, Veronica Monique. I first picked up a tarot deck when I was seventeen out of pure curiosity. What I didn’t realize at the time was that tarot would become one of the tools that helped me better understand myself and the world around me. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been deeply sensitive to the emotions and energies of others. Tarot helped me develop...
